Other uses for your vacuum sealer

While the vacuum sealer was originally designed and made for sealing food to be stored in the freezer for future use, over the years people have discovered other uses for their vacuum sealer. I want to share of few of these with you.

Preparing food for hiking and camping trips—using either left-over food or food prepared especially for your trip, cut it into bite-size pieces and make enough bags to last you for the entire trip. Freeze it or place in the refrigerator until you are ready to leave on your trip. You can often warm it in the sun.

Preparing food for a long drive—to avoid having to stop and waste precious drive time, you can prepare small bags of food to snack on while driving. Place it in a small cooler which you carry inside the car. You can often warm your food by placing it in the sun on the dashboard while driving. Or use the car’s heater in the winter to defrost or warm food.

Preserving collectibles—hobbyists report using their vacuum sealer to protect precious coins, letters, stamps and other items by sealing them inside vacuum bags. Antique dealers have also been known to seal some of their more valuable items before taking them to a show or flea market for sale. You may wish to seal valuable family heirlooms that you wish to pass down to your children.

Storing items of clothing—I’ve had customers tell me they use their vacuum sealer to protect expensive sweaters and silk blouses during those months when they will not be worn. It also protects some clothing items on long trips, especially if they are packed in suitcases that are handled often while traveling on planes.

Protecting expensive tools during the cold, winter months and rainy, spring months—do-it-yourselfers sometimes use their home vacuum sealer to protect their more valuable tools and those subject to rust by simply sealing them in vacuum bags until their next use.

Fishermen have all sorts of uses for vacuum sealing—in addition to freezing their fresh catch, they also use vacuum sealing to store bait for future use, to protect some of the valuable gear while in the boat (like expensive reels, knives and lures).

Share your stories with others………….. If you have a story about an unusual use of your vacuum sealer you wish to share with everyone, please click onto the link at the bottom of each page titled “www.AskRogerSeher.com” and send me an email with the details. As you can see above, I won’t print your name unless you specifically request that I do so.
